HILL SWEEPSTAKES
According to Charley Walters in the St. Paul Pioneer Press it is down to Duke and Rutgers for Tayler Hill.

SIGNINGS
Ida Clarke and Lisa Bear Robe, both of Red Cloud, SD, have signed to play women's basketball with Bismarck State. Bear Robe averaged 11 ppg and Clarke 14 ppg. From the Bismarck Tribune.

Sadie Ewing, of Verona Wisconsin has signed with Winona State. Here is her prep profile in the Capital Times.

COACHING NEWS
Northwestern's women's basketball coach Beth Combs has resigned. Combs had a 24-95 record over four years. From the Chicago Sun Times. The Chicago Tribune stated that she was dismissed.

MOTHER'S DAY
Current Maryland women's basketball coach, and former Gopher coach, Brenda Frese is celebrating her first Mother's day as a mother. From the Des Moines Register.

The Star Tribune has an article on Mother Colleen Chambers, Jordan Volleyball coach and daughter Brittany who excels at both volleyball and basketball.

After your Mother's Day brunches and festivities you can get to the Minnesota State AAU girls basketball tournament at Cooper High School in New Hope. The 16 or Junior Eligible semis are at 3:30 and the finals are at 6:30. The gym should be crackling with energy. The 15us also play at the same time. The 14u championship is at 5 pm.

Semeka Randall has been named the new women's basketball coach at Ohio.

Diane Johns has been named the new girls basketball coach at Mankato West. She has been an assistant at West for 17 years. From the Mankato Free Press.

Mike Lyons has been named the new girls basketball coach at Waterloo Columbus. He was the girls coach at Janesville, IA. From the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

John Steltz has resigned at Seymour, WI. He had a 124-100 record over 10 years. From the Green Bay Press Gazette.

LEAVING
Kelly Lam of Marquette will graduate in December and will not return to the women's basketball team. Lam averaged 5 ppg over two seasons at Marquette after transferring from Oklahoma.

HALL OF FAME
The Lillie Suburban paper looks at Diane Morin and her induction in to the Minnesota girls basketball hall of fame.

WIAC TOURNAMENT
It appears that the WIAC post season women's basketball tournament will lose two teams. The number of teams will drop from 8 to 6. From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

FAMOUS ATHLETES
The Star Tribune lists famous Minnesota athletes, probably in conjunction with the State's 150th anniversary. Janet Karvonen, the first girls basketball phenom, makes the list.

OBITUARY

Tavelyn James of Detroit Mumford has signed with Eastern Michigan. The 5-7 guard averaged 23.2 ppg this past winter.

COACHING NEWS
Ohio will announce their new women's basketball coach today.

Chris Kielsmeier has been named women's basketball coach at Wayne State College in Nebraska. He was the coach at D3 National champ Howard Payne in Texas. He is from Iowa, graduating from Hubbard-Radcliffe high school. From the Sioux City Journal.

Former Sioux Falls Lincoln boys coach Lyle Pearson is the new girls basketball coach. SFL has not been to the state tournament for 15 years. From KELO.

Minneapolis area high schools will honor their Athena Award winners today. 27 of the honorees played basketball.

IPFW has signed two players including Laura Gerhardt from Owens Community College. Gerhardt is a guard from South Milwaukee.

Kylie Gross of Yankton is headed to Mount Marty. The 6-0 post averaged 9.4 ppg for the Gazelles last year. From the Yankton Press & Dakotan.

Maple Grove will host an AAU tournament on June 7 and 8.

Wisconsin women's basketball coach Lisa Stone's contract was renewed, but not extended. From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Wisconsin added Oties Epps as an assistant women's basketball coach. He had been an assistant at Cleveland State.

It is official now that Dave Rund has resigned as girls basketball coach at Fergus Falls. Rund was AAA Coach of the Year. This is the third girls coach that led a team to the state tournament to step down. Earlier Len Messerschmidt at St. Francis and Lamar Detert at Rogers resigned. From the Fergus Falls Daily Journal.

Cambria-Friesland, WI girls basketball coach Frank Nehring has resigned after 18 years. From the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen.

Ohio coach Sylvia Crawley is headed to Boston College as we have reported before. Now you get the official press release from Ohio. Hopkins' Jackie Hiebert is a freshman at Ohio. Two 2009 Minnesota players had verballed Ohio: Kara Elofson of Hopkins and Tina Fisher of Park-Cottage Grove.

Denver will announce their new coach today. Sophomore Ashly Robinson of Bloomington Kennedy plays for the Pioneers.

COACHING NEWS
According to the Fergus Falls Daily Journal girls basketball coach Dave Rund has resigned at Fergus Falls.

Southeast Warren, Iowa coach Ron Smith will serve a 10 game suspension after an incident with a parent after a district game in February. From the Des Moines Register.

Bill VanderWoude has resigned at Forest Hills Eastern in Michigan. From the Grand Rapids Press.

MORE AAU RESULTS
From the Minnesota Seeding Tournament last weekend at Kennedy: The MN Suns 14's lost out this last weekend. Their point guard had a separated shoulder from Lacrosse game. She will be back for state. The Suns went 2-0 in pool and lost first round to Minnesota Stars Hested in first round. The Suns actually beat the tournament champions Fury Haugen in pool play by 10.

Next weekend: Their will be tournaments around the Twin Cities Metro area with MYAS.

In Wisconsin they will hold their state AAU tournament at Menomonie. Their are 8 teams playing in the Junior Eligible tournament. Team WI Select Samuels is the #1 seed.

OPEN ENROLLMENT
The Tea Champion looks at open enrollment in South Dakota and how it is affecting schools. SD will be putting a one year wait like in Minnesota.

Valley City has signed two transfers--Abby Rittenhouse of St. Cloud State (Burnsville) and Caitlyn Wojahn of Sioux Falls (Milbank, SD).

DETERT RESIGNS
Coach Lamar Detert has resigned at Rogers. The Royals were 5AAA champs and finished in 3rd place in the AAA state tournament. He had a 104-43 record in five seasons at Rogers. From the Elk River Star News.

MORE TOURNAMENTS
In MYAS action
Minnesota Thunder 19U team went 3-0 to win the tournament held at Armstrong last weekend. They beat the "Net Master" in the championship on Sunday 47 to 37.

North Tartan Crosby's team kept on rolling this weekend. In the Battle for the Dimes championship game NTC beat Wisconsin PC Badgers 15's 64-54. NTC's Overall record 9-0. Their leading scorer was Janae Burich (6-5 Roseville) averaging 12.5 ppg.

In the 12u MN Seeding tournament it was the Minnesota Suns taking the title. The U12 tournament was set up in a pool play with 5 teams competing. The Suns U12 may be the #1 seed in the National Qualifier in two weeks.

KIRKWOOD ANNOUNCEMENTS
Kirkwood CC women's basketball coach Kim Muhl announced Friday that five sophomore basketball players have announced their intentions for next season.

Previously Lauren Thomas Johnson (Manchester, England) and Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA) had signed with WNIT champion Marquette University.

On Friday, three remaining sophomores announced their plans for next season. Allie Lindemann (Champaign, IL) announced for Siena University in Loudonville,NY; Ashley Gorsh (Urbana, IA) and Rachele Monroe (Clutier, IA) both announced for the University of New Orleans.

These five sophomores were all major contributors for the Eagles back to back NJCAA Div. II championships.

COACHING AWARDS
Nate Malchow of AA State champion Sioux Falls Washington has been named Girls Basketball Coach of the Year by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association. From KELO TV.

OLYMPIC BASKETBALL
The Americans were beat by the Chinese 84-81 in Beijing in a tune up for the Olympics coming this summer. From MLive.

North Tartan Crosby is playing in Battle for the Dimes in Appleton, WI. Today NTC went 3-0 beating, Wisconsin PC Players 16's, Wisconsin Fox Valley Hustle 16's and the Wisconsin Force 17's. Jayme Anderson of Janesville Parker will be inducted into the Janesville Sports Hall of Fame. In the story in the Janesville Gazette are some important reasons for her success: passion for the game, her high school coach is quoted "She knew her game and her limitations. TWO COMMIT, TWO TRANSFER
Krista Pelky of Oshkosh West is headed to Michigan Tech. Pelky averaged 16.2 ppg for the state D1 runner ups this past season. From the Oshkosh Northwestern.

Megan Zilmer of Crosby-Ironton is headed to St. Catherine's.

The two transfers are Laura Kalbfell and Tiffany Good and both are headed to St. Catherine's. Kalbfell (Lakeville South) is leaving SW MN State and Good (North Branch) is leaving UW River Falls.

COACHING NEWS
Shawn Gravalin, Hankinson, ND coach, has requested a retraction from parents for statements they made against him. This is the first step in a defamation lawsuit. From the Fargo Forum.

SEASON WRAPS
Iowa has passed out their end of the year awards. Johanna Solverson won the Coaches award.

Illinois State has passed out their end of the year awards. Nicolle Lewis of Muskego, WI won the free throw award.

SIGNING
Victoria McGowan of Inkster, MI has signed with Bowling Green. From the Journal Newspapers.

Megan Homan of Des Moines Area CC is headed to Texas State. Homan is a 6-3 forward that averaged 5.3 ppg for the 24-8 Bears. Homan is from Remsen, IA.

Nicole Holmes of Mott CC is headed to the University of New Orleans. Holmes played her high school ball at Flint Central.

Whitney Lickteig of Dell Rapids, SD has signed with Mount Marty. From the Yankton Press & Dakotan.

North Dakota's Miss Basketball Christine Miller of New Town is headed to Williston State. From the Minot Daily News.

COACHING NEWS
Mounds View has posted their girls basketball job on the job posting on MSHSL website. This makes 17 known girls basketball jobs open.

The Des Moines Register has a feature on girls basketball coach Adam DeJoode of Southeast Polk, IA who is coaching IBCA Select again this summer.

AWARDS
Western Illinois has passed out their awards. Lindsey Wutt of Waterford, WI was named most improved player.
